2008 Meeting which will be held at Foley Civic Center, Foley, AL.

9, 2007
Tips on getting started on the new camellia season. The Club’s
best growers will be on hand to give Mobile Botanical Gardens
advice and answer questions on achieving the best blooms from
your camellias . Walter Creighton
will
give a talk on how and why gibberelic acid (aka “gib”) is
used on camellias. Gib will be
available for
Club members at this Meeting for $5.00 a vial. October

Three speakers at this Meeting! Seth
Allen will outline all the hard work that has been going on for a
Mobile Botanical Gardens
couple of seasons at Bellingrath Gardens, locating, identifying and
naming the older varieties there.
Vera Curry will then give a short talk on how the camellia, an oriental
beauty, found its way to settle in
such diverse areas of the world as England, Australia and the USA.
A member of the Mobile Bonsai
Society will talk on how to use a camellia in the art of bonsai.

11, 2007 Tea Party!
As most of us know, the tea plant is actually Camellia sinensis,
and Donnie Barrett will be Mobile Botanical Gardens giving us
the straight scoop on how it is grown and how to make a good cup of tea!
We will also be
having a proper English cream tea, which
includes scones, strawberry jam and cream!

9, 2007 Christmas Party & Auction. Come
celebrate the holiday season with a festive buffet meal - the turkey, Mobile Botanical Gardens
ham
and dressing will be provided by the Club with side dishes and desserts being
provided by members.
As a special feature we will have an Auction of quality camellia plants,
just in time for a really nice present.

Mini-Show & planning the big Show !
Bring 5 of your best blooms for a mini-Show, our experts will
Mobile Botanical Gardens teach you how a Show operates as they help you fill out your entry cards, display your blooms and show
you why some blooms win. Volunteers are needed for various things to be
done at the Show next weekend,
join in and have fun putting on one of the South’s premier Camellia
Shows. January 19/20, 2008
68th Annual Camellia Show of the Camellia Club of Mobile!
A showcase of spectacular blooms from Colonial Mall Bel Air across
the South. Choice camellia
plants will be available for sale to benefit the club.
Bring your best
blooms to compete in the Show, and your friends to see why the
camellia is Alabama’s State Flower.

Camellia Propagation. Now is the time to add to your camellia
collection, and everyone can learn how Mobile Botanical Gardens
in this “hands-on” grafting clinic with experts Jim Smelley,
Walter Creighton and others. Other methods
of propagation such as air-layering and planting seeds will also be
demonstrated. March 9, 2008
Fertilization and your Camellias.
Our speaker will be a professional from a fertilizer company who will Mobile Botanical Gardens
explain
the role of fertilizers for camellias, answer questions and make recommendations
for any specific
problems our members may be encountering.

Camellias in the Landscape. Vickie
Baugh will chair a talk on the use of camellias in residential land- Foley Civic Center
scapes.
We will also be holding an exhibition of camellia photographs, all
members are invited to
participate in this show, so bring your pictures!
