.....a letter from our
President, Brenda Litchfield 31 August 2007 Dear Camellia Lovers, Welcome to another camellia
season! We have lots of activities
and fun in store for you this year. As
always, our meeting topics will provide you all the information you need to
produce great plants and blooms. From
planting to pruning to summer care, experts in our club will share their wealth
of knowledge with you. This is one
reason our club is the world’s largest - the informative programs and the
knowledge of our club members. At
last count we had 388 members! Think
of all the knowledge you can get for free.
As you can see from the Schedule of Meetings for our 2007-2008 season we
have once again planned a selection of interesting programs for both the novice
and expert camellia grower. We look
forward to seeing you at the meetings. Back by popular demand are
our successful garden tours. This
will be our third year and some beautiful gardens are in the line-up, to be
published in our monthly Newsletter. This
is always a wonderful opportunity to get a sneak peek at other beautiful
camellia gardens and make new camellia friends. Our club is becoming more
electronic each year and we are expanding our reach in the camellia world.
The web site (www.mobilecamellia.org) is continually updated and has MANY
interesting links. Our Webmaster, Dr. Jim Dwyer, is doing an excellent job of
keeping things organized. If
you would like to receive email notices, updates and information, please email
him your address at jdwyer@gulftel.com. The 67th annual Camellia
Show was a huge success this past January.
There were close to 2,500 blooms! We
barely had enough table space for all of them.
Each year it has gotten better and better. Let’s top 2,500 this year!
Patsy Riley is scheduled to attend our Show and also dedicate the new
Mobile Botanical Gardens camellia garden. This will be a special weekend for
all. Make sure you attend and bring
blooms. I look forward to working
with you this next year and know we will have a productive and special year.
On behalf of the Officers and Board Members, thank you for your interest,
participation and great ideas. Ours is the largest and best
club in the world! It is members
like you that have given us this distinction! We should all make it a goal
to get one camellia planted in someone’s yard that does not have a camellia.
You will be beautifying the landscape in the best way possible.
I challenge you to do this. See you in September, Brenda C. Litchfield |
